Privacy Policy
Restigouche Tourism, a service of the Restigouche Regional Service Commission ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This statement explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to this website and to any information you provide to us.
1. Information we collect
When you use our contact form, we collect your first and last name, email address, phone number and the contents of your message, so we can respond to your inquiry.
When you submit an event, we collect your name, email address and organization, the event details (such as the title, dates, times, location and description), an optional image, and the event contact information you provide (contact name, email address, phone number, and ticket, website and social media links).
When you visit, we also collect limited technical information automatically:
- Usage and technical data: information such as your approximate location, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at our site. This is collected through Google Analytics, and only if you accept analytics cookies (see the Cookies section below).
- Advertising data: information about your visit, such as the pages you view, used to measure our advertising campaigns through the Meta pixel and Google Ads, and only if you accept marketing cookies.
- Your preferences: your language choice and your cookie-consent selections, so the site can remember them on your next visit.
2. Why we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to your inquiry and communicate with you about your request.
- Review the events you submit, contact you about them, and publish approved events on our website.
- Understand how visitors use this website so we can improve its content, navigation, and performance (through Google Analytics).
- Measure the performance of our advertising campaigns, if you accept marketing cookies.
- Remember your language and cookie-consent preferences.
- Maintain the security and proper operation of this website.
- Meet our obligations under applicable privacy legislation, including New Brunswick's Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RTIPPA) and any other privacy laws that apply to visitors from other jurisdictions.
3. Consent
By providing your information to Restigouche Tourism, you consent to its collection and use for the purposes above. Where the law requires explicit, written, or separate consent for a specific use, we will ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer (section 8). Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to deliver the services you have asked for.
4. Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information only:
- With the public, when we publish an event you submitted. The event contact name, email address and phone number you provide for the event are shown on its page. Your own name and email address as the submitter are not published.
- With Google Analytics, which processes technical data to help us understand website traffic and usage patterns, and only if you accept analytics cookies. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- With Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google Ads, which receive information about your visit to help us measure our advertising campaigns, and only if you accept marketing cookies.
- With Google reCAPTCHA, which analyzes certain technical data (such as your IP address and how you interact with the page) when you use our contact or event submission forms, to protect them from spam and abuse.
- With Mapbox, which provides our interactive map and receives technical information (such as your IP address) when the map loads.
- With the service providers that host this website and deliver the emails it sends (such as contact form messages and event submission confirmations), which access information only as needed to operate and maintain these services and are bound by appropriate confidentiality terms.
- Where required or permitted by law, including in response to a lawful request from a public authority.
This website links to external sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. We encourage you to review their policies.
5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored in Canada whenever possible. Some service providers may process limited technical information (for example, web analytics) and the emails sent through our forms outside Canada. Where this happens, the information is subject to the laws of the country where it is processed, including lawful access by authorities in that country.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by your browser. We group cookies into three categories:
- Necessary cookies are required for the site to work, for example to remember your language choice and your consent preferences. Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from spam and abuse, is also included in this category. These are always on and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics 4, which does not log or store IP addresses. These cookies are off by default.
- Marketing cookies are used to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns, through the Meta pixel (Facebook and Instagram) and Google Ads. These cookies are off by default.
Analytics and marketing cookies are loaded only after you accept them. Until you make a choice, only necessary cookies run, and Google Consent Mode keeps Google's advertising and analytics storage turned off.
You can change your choices at any time by clicking Cookie preferences in the footer. Clearing your cookies will reset your preferences and the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block necessary cookies, some features of the site, such as our forms, may not work.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this statement and to meet any record retention obligations that apply to us. Records are retained for seven (7) years, after which they are destroyed or anonymized in a secure manner. Website analytics data is retained for fourteen (14) months.
8. Your rights and our Privacy Officer
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw your consent and ask us to stop using your information.
- Receive a copy of your information in a structured format, where the law requires it.
